Recorded for Jon Solomon's 25-Hour Christmas Show On WPRB!
This is a ridiculous cover of Run–D.M.C.'s holiday classic, "Christmas in Hollis." We considered "Wonderful Christmastime" by Paul McCartney and the Kinks' "Father Christmas," among other nuggets, but gravitated to our pals in Queens instead because, well, why not. We laughed a lot, too. You'll hear it! And hopefully we'll end up re-using this bass line for another song ...
It was December 24th in Prospect Park
When I seen a dude chilling with his dog after dark
I approached them slowly with my heart full of fear
Looked at his dog—it was an illing reindeer!
But then I was chilling because the man had a beard
A bag full of goodies, 12 o'clock had neared
I turned my head and the man was gone
But he left his wallet dead on the lawn
I picket the wallet up and took a pause
Took out the license and it said Santa Claus
A million dollars in it, hundreds of G's
Enough to buy a bike, matching skateboard with ease
But I'd never steal from Santa because that ain't right
So I was going to mail it back to him that very night
But when I got home I bugged because under the tree
Was a letter from Santa saying the dough is for me
It's Christmas time by the Gowanus Canal
Mom's cooking tofu and broccoli raab
Risotto and mushrooms, gluten-free treats
And Santa's putting gifts under Christmas trees
Decorate the house with lights at night
The snow on the ground is so white and bright
The rhymes that you hear are the rhymes of Slist
Because each and every year we give Christmas gifts
The time is now, the place is here
And the whole wide world is filled with cheer
Jack Frost chilling, the bourbon’s out
And that's what Christmas is all about
Our name's SAVAK, got our mics in hand
We're yule-ing and cooling just like snowmen
So open your eyes and lend us an ear
Help us say, "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!"
