We'd considered "What Can You Get a Wookiee for Christmas (When He Already Owns a Comb?)" and the 1961 gem "Merry Twistmas" by The Marcels. But after scouring folders of various recordings in even more various states, we pulled a few sounds together that'd been captured in our practice space and home noodling and started fiddling around. 135 bpm felt right. As did a few samples Sohrab had left over from his days of writing soundtracks to cartoons for the world wide web. Stretch, cut, re-stretch, filter and a-zabble-dabble-doo. Music really was meant to be free! Though we all signed a non-disclosure agreement, so mum's the word on that Leo Nocentelli lick, folks. Anyway, what's a hodgepodge of a loop if not a bed for some fella to fall asleep in with his boots still on? Written and delivered in a single take for minimal hassle and maximum joy.
lyrics
Ben, you out there in Chicago? Greg? Both Gregs? Simpson & Vegas. Saxophones are outrageous. Right, Josh? Break out the Clams, it’s time to mosh with the Colonel, Jazzy Jaws, Tater tot Taylor, Fly-boy Fleisig, this is Schrabby on the mic, when only I take delight, be it Christmas in the Slope or some kinda drone, I never feel alone because…
Hey hey ho ho
It’s another holiday yo-yo
A slip knot to celebrate
To chew on, masticate
Happy to shout out to Solomon Jon
For 29 years of radio brawn
A bounty of tunes
Filled with protein and venom
Angry Snomans
And Danzigs
The heaven, the horror
Mistletoe and menorah
And Comedy Minus One
Two, microphone check
What is this?
Middle aged punks
With wrinkly fists
But we put the A-M-P in PMA
And the Y-D-I in DIY
CIA-GBH-DRI-COC-MOD
Yeah you know me
I’m down with Jerry’s Kids… and Jerry’s Kidz
For Cash and PMS
We put the Community in Center
I don’t want to be a fender bender
And render all songs Mute
Like Depeche a la mode
Ice cream sundaes
Monday Monday
Tuesday til
Wednesday is hump day
Humpty Dump day
of the Deadhead redhead
Blonde on blonde
Brownies and boy scouts
Niblett’s and tid bits
Obits and Fro-bits
No one can blame
A man with two brains
Bad or good
Johnny be sainted
Santa’s so quaint, yeah
My heart is not faint, but
Barracudas are rays, man
You like my spray tan?
Spray Paint brat beater
Not the Würst you can Dü
With a Paper Bag, a Painted Willie
Stargell, Star Wars
Pittsburgh bar core
Has a Half Life
Midwife, midwest, east coast, veggie roast
Plantains on my membrane
Like the sound of trains
On a skateboard
Tomas Squip Rip N Dip
Chip off the old Kidd
Margo was my doggo
Who had a litter
Orange zest and bitters
Drink yourself fitter
Fatter is flattered
By dad-bod, A-rod
In cod we trust
Fishy doctors
Gamblers and proctors
Nothing can shock her
An addiction, affliction, perfect diction
Nary a mountain for a vista
Twisted king of blisters
Blasters, faster, plastic casters
No students, no masters
Card to charge all the presents
Resentments, Replacements
Live at Maxwells, all’s well that ends well
Holiday holiday holiday
Have as fine a time as you can
Take a break, relax
SAVAK says so…

Bright gray sheets of roaring and shimmering guitar held aloft by a delicate web of percussion. Post-rock, shoegaze, psych- rock and hints of bluesy folk, all audible and enmeshed. IlsaJ
